सुभाषितानि
First
भाषासु मुख्या मधुरा
दिव्या गीर्वाणभारती।
तत्रापि काव्यं मधुरं
तस्मादपि सुभाषितम्॥
Second
पृथिव्यां त्रीणि रत्नानि
जलमन्नं सुभाषितम् ।
मूढै : पाषाणखण्डेषु
रत्नसंज्ञा विधीयते ।
Third
अयं निजः परो वेति
गणना लघुचेतसाम् |
उदारचरितानान्तु
वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम् ॥ इति ॥
Fourth
अष्टादश पुराणानां
व्यासस्य वचनद्वयम् ।
परोपकारः पुण्याय
पापाय परपीडनम् ॥ इति ॥
Fifth
अमंत्रमक्षरं नास्ति
नास्ति मूलमनौषधम् ।
अयोग्यः पुरुषो नास्ति
योजकस्तत्र दुर्लभः॥
Sixth
नाभिषेको न संस्कारः
सिंहस्य क्रियते वने। विक्रमार्जितसत्त्वस्य
स्वयमेव मृगेन्द्रता ॥
Seventh
अश्वस्य भूषणं वेगो ।
मत्तं स्यात् गजभूषणम् ।
चातुर्यं भूषणं नार्या
उद्योगं नरभूषणम् ॥ इति ॥
Eighth
काकः कृष्णः पिकः कृष्णः
को भेद पिककाकयोः।
वसन्त काले संप्राप्ते
काकः काकः पिकः पिकः॥
Ninth
शैले शैले न माणिक्य
मौक्तिकं न गजे गजे ।
सज्जना: न हि सर्वत्र
चन्दनं न वने वने।।
Tenth
श्रूयतां धर्मसर्वस्वं
श्रुत्वा चैव विचार्यताम्।
आत्मनः प्रतिकूलानि
परेषां न समाचरेत्।। इति ।।
Eleventh
अतिकामात् दशग्रीवः
अतिलोभात् सुयोधनः ।
अतिदानात् हतः कर्णः
अति सर्वत्र वर्जयेत् । । इति।।
Twelfth
केनामृतमिदं सृष्टं
मित्रमित्यक्षरद्वयम् ।
आपदां च परित्राणं शोकसन्तापभेषजम्॥
Thirteenth
सत्यस्य वचनं श्रेयः सत्यादपि हितं भवेत्।
यद्भूतहितमत्यन्तमेतत्सत्यं मतं मम ॥

Fourteenth
न कश्चिदपि जानाति
किं कस्य श्वो भविष्यति।
अतः श्वः करणीयानि
कुर्यादद्यैव बुद्धिमान् ।।
Fifteenth
प्रथमे नार्जिता विद्या
द्वितीये नार्जितं धनम् ।
तृतीये नार्जितं पुण्यं
चतुर्थे किं करिष्यसि।।
Sixteenth
वरं एको गुणी पुत्रो
न च मूर्खशतान्यपि।
एकश्चन्द्रस्तमो हन्ति
न च तारागणोऽपि च ॥
One wise son is worth more than a hundred stupid ones, for a single moon removes the darkness, which even a hundred stars cannot do.
Seventeenth
क्षणशः कणशश्चैव विद्यामर्थं च साधयेत् ।
क्षणे नष्टे कुतो विद्या कणे नष्टे कुतो धनम् ॥ इति।।
One should take knowledge without losing a single moment and save every particle and collect money. The one who has lost the moment does not get knowledge And those who consider particle as small do not get money.
Eighteen
सन्तोषामृततृप्तानां यत्सुखं शान्तचेतसाम् ।
कुतस्तद्धनलुब्धानां इतश्चेतश्च धावताम्।। इति।
How can greedy men sense the pleasure of men who are fulfilled with nectar of contentment? They only run after money without thinking.
Nineteenth
यद्यदाचरति श्रेष्ठस्तत्तदेवेतरो जनः।
स यत्प्रमाणं कुरुते लोकस्तदनुवर्तते।। इति।।
Whatever action is performed by a great man. Common man follow in his footsteps. And whatever standards he sets by exemplary acts, all the world pursues
Twentieth
वनानि दहतो वह्नेः सखा भवति मारूतः।
स एव दीपनाशाय कृशे कस्यास्ति सौहृदम् ।।
When it catches fire in forest, wind is there to assist it. (Sakha bhavati marutaह्) wind destroys a small lamp (Sa eva deep naashaya). If one doesn’t have power, he doesn’t have friends (Krishe kasyaasti sahrdam). The above Subhaashita is much applicable from the national point of view. One will support you if you have power or else the same will destroy you. So the only alternative with us become a mighty and powerful nation in the world
Twenty First
सत्यस्य वचनं श्रेयः सत्यादपि हितं वदेत्।
यद्भूतहितमत्यन्तम् एतत् सत्यं मतं मम ।। इति।।
Telling truth is recommended, but more than that, tell those things which are in interest of all. According to me thing which is beneficial to large community, is truth.
Twenty Second
काव्यशास्त्रविनोदेन कालो गच्छति धीमताम् ।
व्यसनेन च मूर्खाणां निद्रया कलहेन वा ।। इति।।
A intelligent man spend his time in the research and studies of literature and philosophy. Or in other words the said subjects are means of his entertainment.
In contrasta unintelligent man gets satisfaction in bad habits like sleep. Quarrel or some type of addiction.
Tatparya (Conclusion): In this subhaashita the subhaashitkar has in short advised the reader that how should one spend his/her timell May be according to him a ‘buddhiman’ is a person who invests his time in order to get some thing valuable and long lasting!!
Twenty Third
नमन्ति फलिनो वृक्षाः नमन्ति गुणिनो जनाः।
शुष्कवृक्षाश्च मूर्खाश्च न नमन्ति कदाचन ।। इति ।।
The branches of a tree with full of fruits bend towards the earth (due to the weight of the fruits). In the same way good people are also modest towards the other people. But the unwise people are like a dry stick which never bend (they do not show respect for others).
